"Prairie Gate"

On a grey March day, I decided to paint a scene along the north boundary of our prairie. As is often the case, the painting took on a life of its own, and now only remotely resembles the landscape that I originally referenced. However, it has retained the characteristics of the original, albeit in different combinations. A careful look in the right quadrant will reveal a prairie gate, a gap flanked by two posts, usually closed in summer to keep out wandering cattle.
