A derelict shed and barn that came with our land are slowly disintegrating
in a remote corner of our property. Egg tempera lends itself to this sort of
subject... linear painting and light colours resembling the look of old wood.
Many years ago I was fortunate to see my first egg tempera painting, Adam, by
the late, great master, Andrew Wyeth. HOMESTEAD echoes many of the characteristics
of that painting. Usually I avoid painting old buildings, an overworked genre,
but I thought that this one would demonstrate some of the qualities of egg tempera.
