"Beaver Creek"

BEAVER CREEK flows into the Assinboine River near its confluence with the  Qu'Appelle River in western Manitoba. Fort Ellice, one of the most important fur trading posts in Canada's history, was built on the prairie, high above the Beaver Creek valley.

The demands of composition led me to use considerable artistic licence as I painted this scene, leading me away from its geographical realities. The soft afternoon shadows, with sunlight striking the highland, could represent many similar locations along the Assiniboine Valley.
